Why it is private
- Your entries stay in your browser. The page sends them to a server only if you turn on sync, and then only encrypted.
- You do not need an account. There are no ads. A sign-in is only for the optional sync.
- An optional lock encrypts each entry with a passphrase that only you know.
- You can download all your entries at any time, and import them again.

Questions
Where are my entries kept?
Your entries stay in your browser, on your device. The page sends them to a server only if you turn on sync, and then only encrypted. Nobody else can read them.
Do I need an account?
No. Open the page and write. You sign in only if you want sync between devices.
What does the passphrase lock do?
The lock is optional. When you turn it on, your browser encrypts each entry with a key from your passphrase. The page shows only an unlock form until you type the passphrase. It locks again after 15 minutes with no input.
What if I forget my passphrase?
When you turn on the lock, you get a recovery code. It opens your journal and lets you choose a new passphrase. If you lose the passphrase and the recovery code, your entries are gone. Nobody can get them back.
Can I use the journal on two devices?
Not yet. Each browser has its own journal. You can download a JSON file on one device and import it on another.
What happens if I clear my browser data?
Your entries are deleted with it. Download a backup now and then. The file is plain text, so keep it in a safe place.
Can I write with Markdown?
Yes. You can use headings, lists, bold text and links. The page shows no raw HTML and no pictures from other sites.
Is the daily reminder private?
Yes. The reminder is optional. The server only gets the time you choose and your time zone. It never gets your entries.
